Most brand meetings are organized on a national or even completely international level. However, in Divonne-les-Bains, France, close to the Swiss border, the Alpine regional representatives organized a cross-border gathering of Alpine sports cars.

Despite little propaganda, over 200 cars from near and far attended the 1ère Rencontre Franco-Suisse Alpine on September 1, 2019, representing seven decades of car manufacturing in Dieppe.
Arrival in a crowd
Most of the Swiss participants gathered at the Alpine Center Lausanne early in the morning to then travel together on a varied country road route via the Col du Mollendruz and the Col du Marchairuz via St-Cerque to the Col de la Faucille, where all Alpine drivers met to register.

From there, it was a leisurely descent down the pass to Divonne-les-Bains, where the actual meeting took place.
The enthusiasm that greeted the group was impressive. Cell phones were pulled out and waved everywhere. That probably doesn't happen too often to drivers of modern cars.

From around 10:00, more and more vehicles arrived and the parking lot filled up, so that by the end there were probably over 200 Alpine cars parked in several rows.
From the early A106 ...
The range of cars was wide.
It ranged from two examples of the first A106, which was still based on the Renault 4CV, to the 2+2-seater GT4, the Berlinetta A110, the A310 and the A610 and GTA.
Only the four-cylinder A310 and the A108, as well as convertible variants of the Berlinetta were missing.
If you looked a little further, you could also find a Renault Spider, which was also built in Dieppe, and the Renault 4CV and R8 Gordini models, both technology suppliers for the early Alpine models, in the neighboring parking lot.
... up to the modern Alpine A110
Around 50 to 60 historic Alpine and Renault-Alpine sports cars stood alongside around three times as many modern Alpine A110s. Unlike their ancestors, the modern Alpine cars have aluminum instead of plastic bodies, but that hardly bothers anyone among Alpine drivers.

The predominant color was "Bleue Alpine", which is certainly also due to the high proportion of the first series, which was delivered almost exclusively in this livery, while later cars of the following series "Pure" and "Légende" were also sold in white, black, gray metallic or dark blue.
Rally successes as a defining element
To this day, the Alpine brand benefits from the rally successes of the sixties and seventies.
The A110 won the Monte Carlo Rally several times and won the 1973 World Rally Championship.
But the A310 also enjoyed sporting success. In the Calberson Alpine A310, Guy Fréquelin not only beat the famous Lancia Stratos, but also many other rally cars.
As a treat, the presentation of the new Alpine A110 S
As an exclusive premiere, the participants were able to attend the unveiling of the Alpine 110S. This new model, which is also available in a matt gray paint finish and with a carbon roof, is designed to appeal to discerning sports drivers. However, this comes at the expense of everyday practicality and, of course, at a not inconsiderable additional cost.

In any case, the car was extensively admired and inspected by the drivers of the old and new Alpines.
Folk festival atmosphere
The greater part of the meeting was devoted to socializing. After enjoying a freshly prepared paella, there was much discussion. While the area managers gave speeches, the drivers compared their driving experiences with the new and old Alpine/Alpine-Renault/Renault-Alpine vehicles.

The weather played along until the end, without it getting too hot. The day was rounded off with music and cool drinks until the alpinists dispersed again in all directions.
There should be no obstacles to a second meeting of this kind, and perhaps next time the Alpine models missing in 2019 will also make it to the Swiss-French border.
