The coronavirus crisis still has the world firmly in its grip and the situation remains tense. We asked around in the classic car scene and wanted to find out how organizers, workshops, stores, museums and restaurants were faring. We also found out how the relaxation announced by the Federal Council on May 11, 2020 is being handled, who is opening and who is not.
Museums, exhibitions and classic car rentals
The Emil Frey Classic in Safenwil is opening, as are the Lucerne Museum of Transport, Autobau Romanshorn, the Oldtimer Gallery in Toffen and the Pantheon Basel. The approach is slightly different in each case and of course the FOPH regulations and industry protection concepts are observed.
Even before the coronavirus crisis, contactless vehicle handover was standard practice at Rent a Classic's classic car rental service.
Events were canceled, but...
Even though most classic car events had to be canceled this year, Auto Zürich is confident that it will be able to open its doors from 5 to 8 November with the Classic Halls introduced in 2019 - preparations are in full swing.
Swiss production defies interrupted supply chains
Production in Switzerland is a particular advantage these days; Midland Oil, for example, has full warehouses and no supply bottlenecks. In addition, the family business from Hunzenschwil now offers a product in the form of the "Zinc Booster" that many classic car enthusiasts previously had to laboriously import from abroad - now it is available directly from Swiss production!
Workshops open
If you have an extensive stock like the Jaguar specialist Dönni Classic Cars, you can keep your workshop open.
However, other specialist workshops such as Classic Car Connection, Touring Garage, MADmotors and goodtimer.ch have also been able to continue serving customers despite the difficult conditions. Graber Sportgarage in Münsingen says: "You can still drive" and encourages customers to take advantage of a 20% discount on work for their spring service.
Vintage fashion is not neglected either
Store 74 is offering a 10% discount on the regular range of vintage clothing in the store at the Würenlos highway service station to match the start of the classic car season.
