The current Formula 1 season, with all its ups and downs, is in full swing. One person who has experienced all facets of motor racing in his career is Clay Regazzoni. Initially a football enthusiast, the Ticino native's foot only found the accelerator pedal of a racing car late in life. As a driver - including for Ferrari - he delivered impressive races and gained a reputation as "The Indestructible".
With hand throttle on the racetrack
A serious accident in Long Beach ended Regazzoni's racing career for the time being. His nickname was not in vain, because although the driver was paralyzed after the accident, he found his way back onto the racetrack. He continued to sit in the cockpit at classic racing events and rallies thanks to a hand throttle device. During this time, he became heavily involved in helping paraplegics and even applied to the FIA for a racing license in 1996. This application was rejected. Clay Regazzoni died in 2006 in a traffic accident at the wheel of a road car.
Tribute to a sportsman of strong character
The "Wall of Fame" in the autobau Erlebniswelt honors personalities who have made outstanding contributions to motor racing in Switzerland. The Clay Regazzoni special exhibition aims to portray one person in particular. Three vehicles from his career and various exhibits provide an insight into an eventful life.
For the first time, the Regazzoni family has made paintings by the artist Jean Tinguely available for the exhibition. These paintings can be viewed by the public for the first time. The special exhibition can be found in the autobau Erlebniswelt in Romanshorn between September 7 and October 26, 2014.
