On the occasion of Collectors' Week in Abu Dhabi, which, as the name implies, is all about the appreciation of luxury and collector's items, RM Sotheby's will also be auctioning 32 automobiles with a total value of around USD 90 million at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort on December 5, 2025. This means that USD 2.8 million is expected per car, which also makes it clear that no Fiat 1100s or Land Rovers will be auctioned here. Only four of the cars will go under the hammer without a minimum bid.
Young cars
On average, the vehicles on offer are just 13 years old.
In fact, only six of the cars are classic cars, another three will become youngtimers next year, all the rest are vehicles built after 2010 or even in the future!
Mainly super sports cars
14 Ferraris make up almost half of the cars on offer. They are on average 11 years old and valued at over USD 1.4 million.
Apart from four McLaren, three Porsche and two each Aston Martin and Lamborghini, all other brands are represented by only one vehicle.
Record attempt with the McLaren F1
The most expensive car by far will be a McLaren F1 from 1994. An exact estimate is not given, but the hammer price should be at least USD 21 million according to RM Sotheby's.
The last McLaren called up is one of 64 F1s specified for road use with chassis number 014 (SA9AB5AC4R1048014). It was originally delivered in "Titanium Yellow", but in 2007 it was reworked and given the current white color plus additional elements from the GTR/LM repertoire such as the large rear spoiler. More than USD 500,000 was spent on the conversion/rebuild.
In the meantime, the car has covered 13,711 miles according to the catalog. Will this make it the most expensive McLaren F1 in auction history?
Two (almost) classic Ferraris
At least two vintage Ferrari cars are going under the hammer in Abu Dhabi.
While the Testarossa from 1986 is offered for USD 150,000 to 200,000 and without a reserve price, the F40 from Swiss delivery in 1990 is expected to fetch USD 3.2 to 3.7 million.
Chassis 83249 is a car without a catalytic converter and with French registration, the important components are still said to be the first ones and the mileage (miles?) is 2961.
Rarities non-stop
Almost every car on offer is a rarity, including the 1988 Lamborghini Countach, which was sold as a special edition to mark its 25th birthday.
It is now expected to fetch USD 550,000 to 750,000.
The Porsche 993 Carrera RS from 1995 is also rare, with an asking price of USD 370,000 to 450,000.
The Ford GT was sold somewhat more widely, with the 2006 model being announced for USD 400,000 to 500,000.
The 2006 Pagani Zonda Riviera, which is expected to cost USD 9.5 to 10.5 million, is very expensive.
The 2010 Bugatti Veyron is also expected to fetch a high hammer price of USD 1.975 to 2.5 million, as it is a "Nocturne" version.
Things get really exotic with the three racing cars that haven't even been built yet. They all come from the McLaren environment.
And there aren't many examples of the GMA T.50 either, Gordon Murray wanted to keep the McLaren F1 successor exclusive, so it's no wonder that the estimated value here is in excess of USD 5 million.
So if you want to bid on December 5, 2025, you should be financially well equipped. As many of the cars are not street legal (sold via bill of sale), interested parties should clarify in advance whether registration in their own country is possible.
It will be interesting to see whether the investment climate in Abu Dhabi will live up to the high estimates.
