After the kick-off in 2013, the TCS and its partners are preparing the next edition of Lignières Historique. The step from prologue to international racing festival promises exciting, historic racing, a "tribute" to the motorsport legends of the sixties and a varied program for all friends and fans of classic cars and motorcycles.
If you are already planning your next summer vacation, the Lignières Historique will take place from August 14 to 17 in the Bern-Biel-Neuchâtel region and, of course, on the legendary and only circuit in Switzerland.
Backed by tradition
The history of the "Circuit de Lignières" reads like a "Who's Who" of Swiss motorsport. Racing legends such as Jo Siffert, Clay Regazzoni, Jacques Cornu, Philippe Coulon, Rolf Biland with Kurt Waltisperg, as well as international drivers such as Graham Hill, manufacturers and designers, teams, clubs and countless private drivers have tested and trained, lived and experienced the unique flair of this circuit.
Held as an international racing festival
Next year's second Lignières Historique will take on the format of an international racing festival that welcomes all fans and friends of historic racing, and that also dares to look from the past to the future. Above all, the festival is committed to the historical heritage of Lignières and the typical flair with which this race track has thrilled tens of thousands of fans and spectators for decades.
International racing and show rides
The international racing series, limited to a few fields, will start on Friday, August 15, with free practice, followed by qualifying laps on Saturday and the race on Sunday - including warm-up. Racing takes place in the touring car, GT, sports car prototype and monoposto categories. The motorcycles and sidecars will take part in a round of the Vintage Swiss Championship, which is organized by the Friends of Historic Racing Motorcycles (FHRM).
Most of the show drives (demo classes) will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 15 and 16, 2014. The classes are open to historic racing cars (touring cars, GTs, sports cars, sports car prototypes, monopostos), racing motorcycles, sidecars and three-wheelers.
On Sunday, August 17, themed fields will start in this class, ranging from the "GP Bern Revival 1934 to 1954" to various groups of vehicles associated with the history of Lignières and Swiss motorsport.
50 years of the "Grand Circuit" de Lignières
Of course, the "Grand Circuit" in Lignières is not really big. However, the extension to 1.350 km inaugurated in 1964 was more than a third longer than before and from then on served as a reference for countless tests, training sessions, set-up work and races.
The TCS has carefully restored and renovated the track over the past 10 years without changing the course. As a result, participants in the Lignières Historique 2014 will be able to drive on this original track.
As a special "homage", on August 17, 2014 - 50 years after the inauguration - a field of historic racing cars that were already on the track in 1964 will start.
An international "racing festival" for the Bern-Biel-Neuchâtel region
Lignières Historique 2014 will take place as a historic racing festival with a varied program involving the region and the towns of Bern-Biel-Neuchâtel. In addition to the races on the track, a "Concours d'Elegance" and an auction are planned in Neuchâtel, a "Classic Racing Show" in Biel and Neuchâtel, a ride of the "GP Bern Revival 1934-1954" from Bern to Lignières, the first "Swiss Classic Jumble" based on the English model with a swap and parts market on the green meadow, a racing auction on the race track and a Saturday evening event that puts the circuit in the mood of the sixties and seventies.
