The "Fantastic Plastic" plastic car meeting will take place for the sixth time on June 2, 2018. Cars from over five decades are expected again this year, which will hopefully result in an interesting cross-section of the plastic era in automotive engineering.
In the fifties and sixties, automotive dreams were born all over the world with car bodies made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP, fiberglass). This material also made it possible to produce very small series at reasonable costs. Unfortunately, many of these vehicles have long since disappeared from our roads and most have been forgotten.
On June 2, 2018, they will come together for the sixth time after 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, from the BMW M1 to the Enzmann 506, from the Alpine A110 to the Jensen C-V8, from the Ferrari 308 GTB to the Renault Espace. Limousines, sports cars, specials, all are welcome, the only requirement is a plastic body. In 2018, the race will once again start in Lucerne and then experience something very special in Ebikon.
The cars from Alpine and Renault-Alpine will be particularly honored in 2018. Not only the historic A110 and A310 are expected, but also the modern version of the cult sports car.
Affordable, not a luxury event
The meeting is open to the public. A fee of CHF 30.00 (vehicle with driver) or CHF 50.00 (vehicle with driver and one or more passengers) is payable for participation with a vehicle. This includes a visit to the Lucerne Museum of Transport and participation in the various activities, as well as the road book for the transfer stages. The catering (barbecue) will be charged separately, everyone can consume as they please.
Honeymoon for the second time
A whole delegation of Brits with their plastic cars are also expected at the sixth Fantastic Plastic. One of them will be Bill Woodhouse and his wife Ann. Woodhouse is known as the founder of the Tornado brand, which produced kit cars and sports cars with plastic bodies in the fifties and sixties.
The Tornado brand was launched on June 20, 1958 and celebrates its 60th birthday almost at the same time as the "Fantastic Plastic" meeting!
Bill and his wife Ann will be arriving in the same 1958 Tornado that the couple took on their honeymoon 60 years ago. A really nice story!
Registration
Registration is recommended in order to secure a starting place and stand. The number of participants is limited. Simply send an email to [email protected] with the details of the participant and the vehicle, if possible with a picture of the vehicle.
A plastic body is a prerequisite for participation. The number of participants is limited, the organization reserves the right to make a selection in favour of "biodiversity" if necessary. Those who register will receive a confirmation by email.
