From May 26 - 28, 2016, the "Gaisberg Race for Historic Automobiles" will take place for the fourteenth time to commemorate the famous Gaisberg Race of yesteryear, which was part of the European Hill Climb Championship.
Proven program
The four-day program follows a tried and tested pattern; on Wednesday there will be a so-called pre-opening at Schloss Fuschl. On Thursday, the vehicles will be approved at Hellbrunn Palace, in the afternoon there will be a vehicle presentation on the Residenzplatz in Salzburg, after which the participants will compete in the City Grand Prix in the old town of Salzburg, where all participants have to complete five laps of an approximately 1.8 km long course.
On Friday there will be two Gaisberg scoring runs, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The special stage will be held as a regularity rally and has a route length of approx. 150 km. On Saturday, the races on the Salzburgring and other mountain races on the Gaisberg are scheduled, followed by an award ceremony in the evening.
The participants
While the speed can be freely chosen at the Salzburgring, the specified target time must not be undercut at the Gaisberg (average 50 km/h). The winners are determined by adding up the scoring runs. The winner is determined by the smallest time difference.
All historically significant vehicles, open and closed, single and two-seater touring, sports and racing cars built up to 31.12.1969 are eligible. No road registration is required for racing cars, but this must be reported to the organizer. This year there is also a new class for historic or sports cars built up to 1979.
