After a year's break due to the coronavirus, a total of almost 20,000 fans came to the Hockenheimring at the weekend. Jorn Teske, Managing Director of Hockenheim-Ring GmbH, expressed his satisfaction with the 16th edition of the popular classic car event at the end of the event:
"It's a great feeling that we were once again able to welcome visitors to the grandstands and even the paddock and that the response was so great. An event like the Bosch Hockenheim Historic thrives on proximity to the fans. Whether participants, fans, sponsoring partners or the organizing team - everyone was happy to be back together at the Ring. But we are living in special times and so we focused in advance on the smooth implementation of our hygiene concept in order to ensure the safest possible event. In retrospect, we can say that our procedures with regard to the 3G query have proven themselves and were well received."
For the fans, it was worth coming: around 500 participants in twelve racing series offered flawless motorsport. The breathtaking cars of the Group C Super Cup, the Touring Car Classics, the Historic Racecar Association and the FHR HTGT for the Dunlop Trophy were all on the grid.
The rest of the starting field was top-class with the Historic Formula Vau Europe, the CanAM & Sportscars, the GT Classics, the Youngtimer Touring Car Challenge, Dunlop Gentle Drivers '65, the Battle of the Dwarves and the VFV GLPPro. Traditionally, races organized by the Raceclub Germany association rounded off the unique spectrum on the track. The "Black&Gold Collection" from ChromeCars celebrated its exclusive world premiere, offering a true feast for the senses with its exquisite Lotus Formula 1 cars and an LMP2 during presentation drives.
"The large number of racing series from different eras and the full starting fields characterize the event and we are proud
that we have managed to put on an impressive mix even in times of pandemic. We were particularly pleased to see the successful return of Group C with its spectacular cars from the 80s and 90s at the Hockenheimring. This bodes well for the Bosch Hockenheim Historic 2022, which we are already looking forward to," said Jochen Nerpel, Managing Director of Hockenheim-Ring GmbH.
The Design Awards were presented for the tenth time in the categories of best GT, prototype and formula car as part of the Bosch Hockenheim Historie. The expert jury - consisting of three-time Le Mans winner Marco Werner, ChromeCars Managing Director Kai Nieklauson and Ring Managing Director Jochen Nerpel - awarded the prizes to Wolfgang Ziegler's Trabant 601 RS, which was presented at the weekend by racing legend Roland Götz and others.racing legend Roland Asch, the Gebhardt JC 853 of Michael Herich and the Larrousse F1 of Dr. Jochen Gaa.
