On November 1, 2019, Bonhams will also be auctioning 15 automobiles from the years 1899 to 1904 with a total value of £ 1.1 million on the occasion of the annual London-Brighton Run.
The first modern passenger coach
The Panhard-Levassor Type A2 7 HP Rear Entrance Tonneau from 1901, also known as "Le Papillon Bleu", was a major step towards the "modern automobile" almost 120 years ago. The auctioned example from 1901 is one of the five surviving 7-HP versions, once sold to the Belgian René de Knyff. The body was built by Rothschild et Fils in Paris. The car made its way to Great Britain early on and became known as the "French butterfly".
The asking price is now £200,000 to £250,000.
The 120-year-old Peugeot
Also up for auction is a Peugeot 2¼ hp Tricycle from 1899, an early three-wheeler with original Peugeot two-speed gearbox and single-cylinder De Dion engine. £ 40'000 to 60'000 is expected here.
The cars can be viewed on Thursday, October 31 and Friday, November 1, 2019, the auction, which also includes many automobilia, begins on November 1, 2019 at 16:00. From 18:00 it will then be the turn of the cars.
