130 cars that shaped the golden age of rallying will gather for the fifth time on the roads of the Alsatian vineyards around Molsheim from August 24 to 26.
Some of the great champions of the era will be competing in a field where many of their former cars and replicas are in the hands of collectors who have patiently restored or rebuilt them. Among them are the Swede Stig Blomqvist in a Ford Sierra RS 500, the Belgian Bruno Thiry in an Audi Sport Quattro E2 and the Finn Mikko Hirvonen in a Ford Focus WRC.
The organizing committee has taken care to ensure that each car is technically and aesthetically in strict accordance with its historical model.
A special feature of the Alsace Rallye Festival is that there is no timekeeping and participants are even prohibited from taking their own times. The event is not a competition, but a demonstration that takes place over two days on 282 km of road. Almost half of this is cordoned off and reserved for the participants so that they can perform the driving tricks that the public appreciates to their heart's content.
The "Slowly Sideways" will also be competing in France. The winner is not the fastest, but the most spectacular driving style. There are also prizes for the best restoration of an original vehicle or the most authentic replica.
