Summary
Gooding & Co conducted the traditional Scottsdale auction purely online between January 24 and 28, 2022. On offer were 57 cars with an average age of 58 years, estimated together at USD 8.6 million. 84 percent of the vehicles were sold, with bids ranging from 32 to 244 percent of the median estimate. As expected, a Maserati 5000 GT sold for the highest price, while some super classics were disappointing. On the other hand, there were some positive surprises among American makes. This auction review analyzes the results and shows the vehicles in pictures.

Preview (beginning of the article)
Like RM/Sotheby's and Bonhams, Gooding & Co normally holds a traditional face-to-face auction at the Scottsdale Concours in the USA. But while the two competitors continued their tradition in January 2022, Gooding decided to hold the auction in "shared online" mode. 57 cars worth USD 8.6 million went under the hammer virtually between January 24 and 28, 2022. However, Gooding did not want to leave it entirely without an on-site presence, so registered bidders were at least able to inspect the cars on site in Scottsdale. On average, the cars were estimated at just under USD 150,000, which is certainly at the lower end of what we are used to when compared to traditional Gooding auctions. Bidders were even more stingy, offering an average of 93 percent of the median estimate, bringing the total sale to USD 6.8 million.
