Summary
The name Vignale is one of those that you don't read or hear as often as Bertone or Pininfarina, for example. Alfredo Vignale was not so much the man for mass-produced clothing, but rather a specialist for one-offs, modifications of existing vehicles and prototypes. He produced several thousand of these, many of which are now welcome guests at the major Concours d'Elegance around the world. This report looks at the work of Alfredo Vignale and shows around 200 examples of his coachbuilding skills. Probably for the first time ever, many pictures from the workshops are shown, providing an in-depth insight into his working methods.

The name Vignale is one of those that you don't read or hear as often as Bertone or Pininfarina, for example. Alfredo Vignale was not so much the man for mass-produced clothing, but rather a specialist for one-offs, modifications of existing vehicles and prototypes. Many of his creations were designed by Giovanni Michelotti. However, Vignale never really succeeded in establishing itself as its own car brand. He would have been 100 years old on June 15, 2013. Alfredo Vignale was born in Turin on June 15, 1913. He left school at the age of eleven and began working as a handyman in a metalworking shop. However, Vignale was fascinated by the up-and-coming car industry of the 1920s. He shared this interest with his family, as his father and two brothers, Guglielmo and Eusebio, worked as painters for car bodies. And so, at the age of 17, he was drawn to Stabilimenti Farina, owned by Giovanni Farina, the brother of Battista "Pinin" Farina. There he was finally able to live out his craftsmanship and passion for beautiful shapes.
