Summary
Bonhams auctioned 116 vehicles at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elégance on March 5, 2020, with the total value estimated at over USD 40 million. The average age of over 67 years and the broad brand landscape (around 53 manufacturers/brands) documented an extremely diverse offering with a large pre-war component. A long and tough battle was fought over the Renault Type AI 35/45HP Vanderbilt Racer from 1907, which was ultimately won by an American museum against tough French resistance. Three quarters of the cars were sold, achieving an average selling price (including commission/surcharge) of just over USD 242,000. This report analyzes the results, looks at the mood on site and shows pictures of the vehicles on offer.

Preview (beginning of the article)
Once again, the Fernandina Beach Golf Club in Amelia Island was the venue for a Bonhams auction. On March 5, 2020, in the run-up to the Amelia Island Concours d'Elégance, 116 vehicles, including mainly cars but also a Lambretta and an NSU Ketten-Krad, went under the hammer. The total value of the vehicles was estimated at over USD 40 million, but just under USD 22 million was realized. Three quarters of the cars were sold, with an average bid of 73 percent of the median estimate per lot. It is rare to find such a wide selection of vehicles at an auction. The oldest car was from 1886 (albeit a replica of the Benz Patent Motorwagen), the youngest was a 2014 Bentley Continential GT3-R. In between, every decade was represented with 53 brands, from AC to Willys. The average age of the cars was around 67 years.
