Preview (beginning of the article)
Time and again, experts debate about the great and prominent drivers. About Jackie Stewart, Jochen Rindt, Jim Clark, Juan-Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Giuseppe Farina, Alberto Ascari, Jean-Pierre Wimille, Tazio Nuvolari, Hermann Lang, Bernd Rosemeyer, Louis Chiron, Robert Benoist and others, and the question of who was or is the greatest of all time comes up again and again. There is no right answer to this question... there can't be! The great drivers raced in different periods, often on fundamentally different vehicles and under different conditions and circumstances. In addition, every driver has a certain driving limit, which can vary from race to race and is also influenced by other reasons that are often unknown to outsiders. It is therefore superfluous and impossible to draw comparisons.
