A pretty exciting PR tour with Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi
Summary
An exciting PR tour that Rainer Braun and Domingos Piedade had put together at short notice for the Brazilian Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi lasted three days in December 1972. But it felt more like a whole month, as appointment followed appointment and there were also some unplanned appearances and transfer flights through the thick fog. "Nobody will believe us in 20 or 30 years," Piedade summed up at the time. Rainer Braun remembers, of course, and recounts the events down to the hour, not forgetting the individual fees and also has a few highly interesting snapshots to offer.

This report comes from the 2nd volume of the popular book series "Hallo Fahrerlager" by Rainer Braun from 2008. At the beginning of November 1972, the readers of the Cologne-based "Auto Zeitung" voted Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi "Racing Driver of the Year" by a large margin. As the paper's head of sport, the first person I call is its Germany manager Domingos Piedade, who fortunately also lives in Cologne, looks like the former Saudi oil minister Sheikh Ahmed Jamani, and often goes out with me in the cathedral city. In view of the pleasing election result, I ask hopefully whether we can expect his protégé to attend the award ceremony at the Cologne Sports Press Festival. "If we can arrange a few lucrative appearances for him," replies the enterprising Portuguese, "I don't see any problem. Then you can even have him for free."
