Back in the 1980s, Renault helped the R5 back on its feet by installing a mid-engine behind the driver/passenger. The experiment was repeated at the end of the nineties, except that the Sport Clio V6 24V could now count on a three-liter six-cylinder engine. The utility value decreased, but the fun factor increased disproportionately. Does that still apply today? This driving report tells the story of the unusual sports model and shows it in many historical and current pictures.

There are very few cars that actually look quite normal and most of their components come from mass production, but at the same time trigger so many emotions and completely win you over from the very first meter. The Renault Sport Clio 3.0 V6 is one of these rarities. It is rare anyway, but it is also surprisingly practical if you want it to be. Of course, it doesn't have the name Clio in the model designation for nothing, but if you look under the plastic panels, you quickly realize that an enormous effort has been made here to turn a hatchback compact car into a Granturismo. Of course, this begs the question: why at all?
