Preview (beginning of the article)
The idea of selling racing technology in a road car is almost as old as the automobile itself. But from time to time it flares up anew and each time completely different challenges arise. It was in November 1958 when the Shah of Persia (Mohammad Reza Pahlavi) approached Maserati with the idea of combining the engine from the 450 S racing car with the 3500 GT Granturismo sports car. It had to be a very special car, the Shah demanded, and was prepared to finance the project. Maserati was not exactly bedded on roses at the time, so the idea fell on receptive ears, especially as the 450 S engine was just sitting in a corner after the end of the sports car's racing career. The rest is history and it has already been mentioned in many articles, including on Zwischengas. That's why we want to give the topic a slightly different spin here.
