The flying carpet - Borgward P 100 2.3-liter in the (historical) test
Summary
The title refers to two features of the "big" Borgward P 100 2.3 l, which went into production in 1959. Thanks to its Hansamatic transmission and Bosch air suspension, the Bremen saloon was ideal for long journeys. In addition (this interpretation is a little far-fetched), the pretty Hanseatic adapted to the needs of its driver and was also quite sporty to drive despite its impressive mass, steering wheel gearshift and undersized brakes. This article reproduces an original test report from 1960 and shows the big Borgward in extensive historical pictures and sales material.

Dr. Carl F. W. Borgward has always been regarded as a man of progress. He certainly owes this reputation not least to the freedom of movement that he has fought for over many difficult years: as the owner of his plants, he is not answerable to any supervisory board or general meeting. But perhaps even more important is the synthesis of life's work and hobby: the head of the plant that bears his name is an enthusiastic car builder! In addition to the popular mid-range model 1500 and later the "Isabella", a prestige car - the Borgward 2.4 l - had also been built in Bremen-Sebaldsbrück for many years. It was a massive car, a real "steamer". When the sparrows began to whistle from the rooftops last year that there would soon be a new large Borgward, a "successor" to the 2400 was generally expected. The youngest child of the Borgward company has become something completely different. Even on the outside. Despite its dimensions, this car looks almost dainty. It is not a reissue, but a new concept from A to Z. The fact that it was possible to take over essential components from the Isabella should not only be an advantage for the manufacturer.
