The Porsche Museum opened its doors for the first time ten years ago and is now one of the most spectacular automobile museums in the world. To mark its milestone birthday, it will be showcasing milestones and masterpieces of engineering at the Retro Classics Stuttgart trade fair from March 7 to 10, 2019.
"For us, Retro Classics Stuttgart always marks the start of our external communication activities," says Achim Stejskal, Head of the Porsche Museum and Historical Public Relations. The exhibition at the trade fair looks back on the decade and will have some epoch-making vehicles on show.
Some of them are celebrating their own anniversary in 2019, such as the Porsche 917, which had its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in 1969.
The example with chassis number 001, which will be prominently displayed at the show, has been restored to its original condition after several years of painstaking work. The oldest car on display - at 70 years old - is a 356/2 Gmünd Cabriolet. Delivered in February 1949, the car has one of probably only two Keibl bodies.
Fans and connoisseurs are in for a very special surprise. Porsche won the European Hillclimb Championship in 1967 and 1968 with the 910/8 Bergspyder. Today, this model is a prime example of lightweight construction, as conventional materials have been replaced by titanium, magnesium, aluminum and plastic."
The lovingly restored vehicle will be on public display again for the first time in over 50 years.
Visitors can also look forward to meeting a real racing legend in the flesh: former works driver Hans Herrmann will be giving two autograph sessions at the Porsche Museum stand (Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10, 2 to 3 p.m.).
