In 1961, the ground-breaking ceremony for the only permanent race track for cars and motorcycles in Switzerland was held in Lignières. From July 5 to 7, 2013, racing and sports cars from the good old days will once again provide the atmosphere and background noise on the now TCS-owned and completely renovated track.
New traditional event
With the Lignières Historique, a new traditional event is to be anchored in the calendar of historic motorsport. The first event in July 2013, which was put together in a short space of time, will serve as a prologue, so to speak, and the organizers are planning an international competition and high-level races for the following year.
80 participants at the start
After just three weeks, the entry list is already full of attractive vehicles and well-known greats in historic racing. From pre-war Maserati, to beautiful formula cars such as the Alpine A362, to sports prototypes à la Grac MT14S, a wide-ranging field of vehicles is expected.
Some of the registered vehicles may even have been on the same track many years ago.
In groups of eight to ten vehicles, stints of 15 minutes are driven according to the regularity regulations or in demo mode, twice on Saturday and twice on Sunday.
In addition to the cars, motorcycles and sidecars will also be doing their laps, with Rolf Biland and his co-driver Waltisperg showing what can be done with a three-wheeler on the narrow course.
On the short circuit
The short circuit in Lignières, 1,006 meters long and peppered with challenging bends, will be used in July 2013. The narrow course can be easily seen by the spectators, and a grandstand will be erected at the rear.
Race cars in Biel-Bienne and Neuchâtel
The event begins on Friday, July 5, on the central square in Biel-Bienne and on the Place du Port in Neuchâtel, where the arriving drivers will make a stopover with their vehicles and the vehicle inspection will take place (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) before they move into the paddock in Lignières.
With connections to public transport and a special parking lot for classic cars
People arriving by classic car can park their vehicle directly by the track - as long as there is space - or in the village of Lignières. For those arriving by train, there is a bus service between Le Landeron and Lignières. The day ticket costs €18 for adults and €12 for children and senior citizens. The ticket offices are open from 8 am. Free parking is available.
