Top equipment need not only be reserved for the large-engined models in the D segment. Because 25 years ago, in 1995, the lion brand presented the Peugeot 106 Premium, the smallest model in its range at the time, with equipment similar to that of a luxury saloon. This was not to be found on models in the upper segments
25 years ago: Introduction of the Peugeot 106 Premium
The second generation of the Peugeot 208 is reminiscent of another of the brand's small city runabouts. Twenty-five years ago, it was considered the epitome of luxury and uniqueness in its segment. The Peugeot 106 Premium was initially presented together with the Peugeot 306 at the Bologna Motor Show. The limited edition of only 600 units exclusively for the Italian market was quickly sold out. The Peugeot 106 Premium has been coveted by Peugeot fans since 1995.
The success of the small city car was linked to its strong personality. It attracted attention with a certain standard of comfort, elegance and equipment. Typical of a luxury car. Its equipment was comparable to that of a large limousine: Leather and Alcantara® upholstery, including on the rear headrests, still very unusual for the time. It also had split rear seats, electric windows at the front, air conditioning, driver's airbag, power steering, central locking with remote control and electric, heated mirrors.
When the vehicle was delivered to the dealer, the customer received a certificate with the number of their vehicle and the Premium logo. This can be found in italics on the right-hand side of the trunk lid, the fog lights and the tinted, water-green windows. The Peugeot 106 Premium was only available with the 1,360 cm3 petrol TU engine with 55 kW (75 hp) and was offered in pastel white, Lucifer red, Mayerling green and Miami blue.
Peugeot also made a wide range of accessories available to owners of the Peugeot 106 Premium. Many of the Peugeot 106 Premium customers chose to complete their car with six-spoke alloy wheels and a wood finish on the dashboard.
Maximum comfort and the latest technological features are now also available for the most compact cars in the Peugeot range. At the top of the segment is the Peugeot 208, launched in 2019 and offered in the GT version with characteristic styling features and latest-generation driving assistance systems. The GT equipment is reserved for the all-electric version, the Peugeot e-208, and underlines the driving pleasure associated with this type of drive.
Peugeot e-208: Driving pleasure without emissions
It is no coincidence that the abbreviation "GT" (Grand Touring) has always been used for the most powerful and best-equipped versions of the Peugeot brand. "GT" stands for resilient and dynamic cars designed to dominate the road in comfort and style.
The high-quality standard equipment of the Peugeot e-208 GT puts it at the top of the segment thanks to its special stylistic features such as the full LED headlights with the distinctive three-claw light signature, wheel arch covers and black-painted windshield wipers. The equipment is rounded off by 17-inch wheels with diamond-coated aluminum rims. The passenger compartment is enhanced by the elegant Alcantara® leatherette seats. This is complemented by the latest generation of technologies, such as the Peugeot 3D-i-Cockpit® and the TomTom® 3D navigation system NAC with real-time navigation and 10-inch HD touchscreen (25.4 cm). A variety of other driving aids pave the way to semi-autonomous driving.
