On September 20, for the first time in over two decades, Nagel Auktionen will once again be holding an automobile auction in which 26 exquisite vehicles will go under the hammer. The auction is the result of close cooperation between Nagel Auktionen and Kamm Kunst & Wert (kammkunstwert.com).
Dr. Thomas Kamm, Senior Representative Germany & Austria at Bonhams for many years, and his team were responsible for acquiring the vehicles and creating the catalog.
The venue is the former premises of Galerie Braunbehrens in the noble Waldbaur area (Rotebühlstraße 87), where the finest chocolate was produced for almost 130 years (from 1848 to 1977). However, Stuttgart is not only a chocolate city, but above all a car city; after all, the automobile was invented there in 1886. Stuttgart can therefore justifiably call itself the "cradle of the automobile".
Stuttgart's home game
Around half of the vehicles offer an insight into automotive history from the 1950s to the turn of the millennium, with a focus on two premium car brands from Stuttgart. Both launched a series of iconic models on the market during this period. Some of Porsche's "911" versions stand out: the rare "oil flap", the even rarer Targa model "Softwindow", the pioneering Turbo or the racing-oriented RSR body. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz created a large number of important classics, such as the elegant 190 SL, the luxurious 220 SE Ponton Cabrio and the stylish 280 SE Cabrio from the tail fin series. In the luxury saloon segment, the powerful 450 SEL 6.9 set new standards at the time.
Racing cars and icons
Another segment deals with racing cars in various forms, from the unique Triumph TR SS (1955) to the Ferrari 512M from 1996. In between, there are trouvailles such as the Devin D from 1957, a high-quality recreation of the iconic Porsche 718 RSK with Fuhrmann engine and a Beck 904. In the automotive icons section, there are three Italians: the charming Fiat 500, the elegant Alfa Romeo GT Bertone and the sporty Alfa Junior Zagato GT. The Jaguar E-Type Roadster Series I, the unique racing XK120 and a Rolls-Royce 20/25 from 1934, which perfectly embodies the era of the great pre-war luxury limousines, come from England. An absolute icon and the original form of the VW Beetle is the "pretzel window" model. One of the last built (1953) and the reconstruction of a streamlined Type 60 K10-RR round off the range.
Lot 1: Mercedes-Benz SL 320 Cabriolet (2001)

This vehicle belongs to the last and therefore most sought-after series of the R 129 model series. It is a particularly exclusive "Edition" special model, which was offered in limited numbers in 2001 - the last year of production. This coupé presents itself in a very well-kept overall condition with a documented mileage of only 86,000 km. Both visually and technically, it impresses with its originality and exceptional condition, which is rarely found in this form. The vehicle is also accident-free and in its original condition.
The traceable ownership history demonstrates the special care and value retention of this SL 320. It comes from a third owner and was last owned by a renowned Stuttgart neurologist, who looked after it with the greatest care. This provenance makes it a particularly exclusive collector's item.
Lot 7: Porsche 911 T 2.4 Targa "Oil flap"

The Porsche 911 of the 1972 model year occupies a special position, as it was only produced in this one year with the so-called "oil flap". This feature, an external oil filler neck on the right rear fender, was placed for reasons of weight distribution, but was quickly removed again due to the risk of confusion with the fuel filler neck. This short production time makes the 1972 911 a sought-after collector's item.
The present vehicle, a 911 T Targa from 1972, is backed up by complete documentation. A Porsche Classic Technical Certificate confirms the matching numbers of the engine (Type 911/67). The first delivery was made to the Porsche Center Düsseldorf on December 1, 1971. The original exterior color was Gemini Metallic.
Lot 19: Mercedes-Benz 280 SE/C/8 Cabriolet (1971)

The design by Paul Bracq is still timeless today and makes the vehicle a sought-after classic. The rare 4-speed manual gearbox ensures an authentic and purist driving experience.
The comprehensive history traces the complete and fascinating past of this example, which has been in the family for decades. An expert report from 2004 certifies a mileage of just 20,417 km, which indicates a long period of care. The current mileage of 136,840 km testifies to active use over the last twenty years.
