To mark the brand’s 70th anniversary, the last model produced in the second generation is the Alpine A110 R 70. It embodies the most radical version of the sports car, combining extensive use of carbon fiber with a 300 PS engine and a performance suspension.
Painted in Bleu Alpine with a contrasting black roof, this anniversary model combines both French savoir-faire and the brand’s sporty DNA.
The First Generation
The original “Berlinette” was built from 1963 to 1977. A total of 6,749 models with rear-mounted four-cylinder engines and plastic bodies were produced since 1969. Some of them enjoyed great success in rally racing. Well-preserved early high-roof A110s are highly valued on the classic car market today.
81% were modern Alpine models
Of the exact 35,450 vehicles produced, 28,701 units were the second-generation Alpine A110, introduced in 2017, with which the performance brand celebrated its return to the sports car market.
These figures reflect the talent, dedication, and passion of the men and women who have brought Alpine to life since its founding on June 22, 1955, in Normandy.
Bleu Alpine
Visually, the Alpine A110 is also the brand’s flagship—especially in one of the blue paint finishes that adorn more than 58 percent of the sports cars produced in Dieppe. One-third of these are finished in the distinctive “Bleu Alpine”—the iconic color that has long since become the brand’s hallmark.
Contrary to popular belief, this shade does not derive from national racing colors such as British green, Italian red, or Belgian yellow. Rather, its unique history stems from the specific request of a customer in the early 1960s who wanted his Alpine painted in a metallic shade of blue. This color appealed not only to him but also to many other customers—and thus became a trademark. Today, “Bleu Alpine,” from which the color code 331 originated, is firmly established and a symbol of Alpine’s tradition and history.
Lightness, Agility, and Driving Pleasure
From the original Berlinette to the second-generation model, which was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the Alpine A110 has always embodied Jean Rédélé’s vision: to offer sports cars that prioritize lightness, agility, and driving pleasure.
With its second generation, Alpine successfully returned to commercial success: The model has won numerous international awards, established itself as the benchmark among modern sports coupes, and enjoys a loyal and passionate community far beyond France’s borders.
An Important Economic Symbol
The Alpine A110 has always been more than just a car: As the pride of an entire region, Alpine has been part of Dieppe’s local history for decades. At the “Manufacture Alpine Dieppe Jean Rédélé,” some families have been working for the brand for several generations. Passing down their expertise has helped forge a unique bond between Alpine and the local residents. Many claim—in reference to the brand’s iconic color—to have “blue blood” running through their veins. Over the years, the Alpine A110 has evolved into an industrial, economic, and emotional symbol deeply rooted in the city’s identity.
The model is also the result of a unique French industrial ecosystem that brings together the best expertise in the automotive industry. Alpine’s 100% electric vehicles also reflect this national connection: the chassis and motors come from Le Mans and Cléon, respectively, while the high-performance tires are developed by specialist Michelin as a strategic partner. And even the high-voltage batteries for the electric vehicles come from France and are assembled in Douai.
Successor Will Be All-Electric
While the second model generation has now been phased out, its successor is already on the horizon: The third generation of the Alpine 110 will also be produced at the Dieppe plant, and preparations are already underway. The transition is accompanied by new investments, new industrial tools, and further adjustments at the facility, which has stood for excellence for more than fifty years.
The new version is based on the new Alpine Performance Platform (APP), which lays the foundation for uncompromising driving pleasure—and thus continues to ensure the Alpine A110’s signature character. As the first true electric sports car, the third generation brings power, lightness, agility, and driving pleasure into a new technological era.
