From 1 to 3 August 2025, Messe Freiburg will become a special meeting place for classic car fans: the organizing association ADAC Südbaden e.V. and Freiburger Motorsport-Club e.V. will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the legendary ADAC hill climb on the Schauinsland with the 18th Schauinsland Classic Rally, an anniversary exhibition and an international classic car meeting. Admission to the exhibition and meeting is free.
Schauinsland Classic Rally
The two-day Schauinsland Classic Rally on 1 and 2 August 2025 forms the centrepiece of the celebrations. The classic cars built up to 1993 will each cover a 230-kilometre route through the southern Black Forest over the two days. This year, the rally has a new record number of participants, as the starting field is fully booked with 140 vehicles. Teams from all over Germany have registered, as well as participants from Switzerland, France and the Netherlands.
In addition to classics such as Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar, rare pre-war vehicles are also taking part - including an Alfa Romeo 6C GS 1750 Zagato and a BMW 328 Roadster.
As every year, the rally center is Messe Freiburg. The rally starts on Friday, August 1 at 12:30 pm. A special highlight awaits the public on Friday evening, when the classic cars gradually roll onto Freiburg's Münsterplatz. During the vehicle presentation, spectators will learn more about the history and special features of the historic rarities. On Saturday, August 2, the teams will start again at 9 a.m. at Messe Freiburg, where they will be greeted by enthusiastic spectators again in the afternoon.
Anniversary exhibition for the Schauinsland hill climb
Parallel to the rally, an extraordinary exhibition will be held at Messe Freiburg: Around 100 exhibits will be presented, including cars and motorcycles that started at Schauinsland during the ADAC hill climb from 1925 to 1985. Among the exhibits is the Opel 12.3 liter record-breaking car that took part in the first hill climb in 1925. In addition to vehicles, trophies and plaques, pictures and films of the historic race days with their up to 100,000 visitors will be shown.
The exhibition will be complemented on Saturday and Sunday by talks with racing legends such as Mario Ketterer, Eckhard Schimpf and the 1972 European Hill Climb Champion, Dr. Helmut Mander. The exhibition is open on Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 and on Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00.
International classic car meeting
The crowning glory of the anniversary event will be an international classic car meeting on August 3. From 10 a.m., the Messe Freiburg exhibition grounds will be transformed into the classic car hotspot of southern Baden. Here, clubs and private owners will have the opportunity to show off their automotive gems and exchange ideas. Visitors can admire a large number of impressive vehicles up close.
ADAC World of Experience and Street Food Market
In addition to the exhibition and the classic car meeting, a varied supporting program awaits children and adults at Messe Freiburg: families and motorsport fans will get their money's worth on Saturday and Sunday at the ADAC Erlebniswelt. The youngest ones can let off steam on a bouncy castle and gain their first experience on four wheels on the bobby car course. Motorsport fans can look forward to action-packed driving fun on the racing simulators - here they can get a taste of racing air and go on a virtual time chase.
The Street Food Market, which takes place at the same time, offers culinary delights for visitors on both days.
Sustainability project
What began in 1925 with screeching tires and roaring engines will be accompanied by a green footprint this year. To offset the rally's CO2 emissions, the entry fee for each classic car includes the cost of planting a tree. This is the first time that the Schauinsland Classic has been organized in a climate-neutral way. The first seedlings for the "ADAC Schauinsland Klassik Forest" are already growing on the original route in a side valley of the Kinzigtal near Hofstetten. ADAC Südbaden e.V. will be planting more trees there in the fall. Every participant in the rally will also receive a vignette with the message "We are driving climate-neutral in 2025", which can be attached to their own classic car.
