It is becoming increasingly fashionable to sell entire collections at auction. Recent examples show that the owner has a good chance of getting a good price. A Swiss collector has apparently also decided to sell his 42 Porsches via RM/Sotheby's, and the first thirteen cars will now be offered at the Rétromobile auction in Paris on February 8.
The oldest car is a Porsche 356 Speedster from 1955, estimated at EUR 300,000 to 400,000.
The most expensive car, on the other hand, is probably the ultra-rare Porsche 959 Sport from 1988, one of only 29 examples. With just 11,281 miles on the clock, it has barely been driven in. It also belonged to the famous American racing driver Vasek Polak, who collected the car personally in Stuttgart. The car is now said to be worth EUR 1.5 to 2.0 million.
Only 406 Porsche 924 Carrera GTs were built, one of these rare evolution models in silver from 1981 was also in the Swiss collection and is now expected to fetch EUR 70,000 to 90,000. With 73,000 km on the clock and freshly restored to original specifications, this is certainly a realistic estimate for the Carrera GT originally delivered to Switzerland.
Incidentally, the three Porsche cars mentioned, as well as the ten others, will be auctioned without a reserve price, so perhaps one or two interested parties will be able to get their hands on a bargain car? However, recent history would suggest the opposite.
