Rolf Sprenger passed away on February 24, 2021 at the age of 77. Born in Stuttgart, he initiated the special request programme for the individualization of chassis, engine, body and interior in 1978 - the predecessor of today's Exclusive programme. "The news of his death hits us hard. Our thoughts are with his family," says Alexander Fabig, Head of Individualization and Classic at Porsche AG. "His conviction to place the customer's wishes at the center of his division's activities has shaped the Porsche Classic and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur range to this day. With his distinctive technical expertise, he was a pioneer for many customization scopes and small series that are taken for granted today," says Fabig. "We would like to thank him for the passion with which he promoted our topics - as a discussion partner at events in the Porsche Museum and as the author of highly regarded books."
Porsche in his head since childhood
Rolf Sprenger has been a big Porsche fan since childhood. Even as a young boy, he dreamed of one day sitting in a Porsche 356. He studied mechanical engineering at the State University of Applied Sciences for Civil and Mechanical Engineering in Constance. After several years as an automotive test engineer at Bosch, Stuttgart, and Simms, London, he moved to the engine testing department at Porsche in Zuffenhausen in 1967.
Sprenger was instrumental in converting the Porsche six-cylinder engines from carburetor to fuel injection. He made the new technology ready for series production. After taking over the world-famous factory repair department, he and his staff were responsible for individual customer support. He was personally commissioned by Ferry Porsche to provide Porsche customers from all over the world with advice and assistance on technical issues and special requests of all kinds. For him, this was both a mission and an obligation throughout his working life.
Rolf Sprenger and his employees at the Werk 1 factory built cars - or rather: the tailor-made suit as a one-off for Porsche customers. He was closely associated with Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG and its products and worked as an expert in the field of classic cars.
