In 2015, the Museum of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, achieved another year-on-year increase with over 440,000 visitors for the fifth year in a row. That is eight percent more visitors compared to 2014. "Next year, we are aiming for three million visitors," says Achim Stejskal, Director of the Porsche Museum, looking to the near future. "Since we opened in 2009, almost 2.9 million people have visited our exhibition. Of these, over 50 percent of our guests still come from all over the world."
Everything under one roof
Just a stone's throw away from sports car production, the Porsche Museum brings together all areas of tradition under one roof: from the exhibition to the museum workshop to the company archive. "We are a functional and emotional center for the Porsche brand," explains Achim Stejskal. In addition, another brand experience has found its place in the Porsche Museum: For over a year now, customers have been able to realize their dream of being able to drive a Porsche. In 2015, more than 2,500 Porsche enthusiasts took advantage of the opportunity to rent vehicles from the current model range. Here, too, around 65 percent of bookings came from abroad.
"Restoration of the Year"
Together with the motorsport department of Porsche Cars North America, the Porsche Museum restored the Porsche 917 from 1970. "It is particularly important to us to restore our collection vehicles to their original condition," emphasizes Achim Stejskal. In 1970, the 15th 917 built won the 24 Hours of Daytona. The following year, 1971, the Gulf Porsche was the first to cross the finish line at the 1000-kilometer race in Spa-Francorchamps. "After two years of restoration, we will be exhibiting the 917/015 again in Zuffenhausen," announces Achim Stejskal.
The restoration promptly won a prize. The "Rennsport Reunion" event held on American soil won a second award in the "Motorsport Event of the Year" category. The event, which was organized by Porsche Cars North America, was supported by the Porsche Museum with ten vehicles.
Outlook for 2016 - 40 years of the Transaxle
In the new year, the Porsche Museum will be celebrating a special lateral thinker in the history of the Zuffenhausen-based brand. From April 27, 2016, the sports car manufacturer will be presenting the Porsche models 924, 968, 926 and 944 as part of the special exhibition "40 Years of Transaxle".
Half of the 23 exhibits on display will be taken out of the museum collection and presented to the public for the first time. Some selected transaxle models will already be on display at the Stuttgart Retro Classics, which the Porsche Museum will be attending from March 17 to 20.
Open again as usual from January 2
The Porsche Museum will remain closed over the turn of the year December 31, 2015/January 1, 2016. From January 2, the museum will open as usual from Tuesdays to Sundays from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. On January 6, the "Day of the Three Kings", the museum can also be visited.
