At the end of the year, the makers of Auto Bild klassik look back on special events of 2014, remembering the Egger-Lohner-C2, the Nürburgring debacle, the model car affair of the head of the state chancellery, major anniversaries (300 SL, Ford Mustang, VW Golf, Maserati, ...) and and and and ...
But this short article is of course only a small part of the new issue, which has a lot more to offer.
The VW Golf and its role models
To round off the 40th anniversary year of the VW Golf, Auto Bild takes a look at the most important competitors with the "Golf concept": Renault R4, Autobianchi Primula, Simca 1100 and Audi 50. To photograph a Primula, the editors even had to make a pilgrimage to Italy and even there they couldn't find a perfect example. Maybe it's really because the Autobianchi wasn't called a Fiat ....
Of course, the VW Golf itself then completes the lead article, photographed was a yellow example of the first year of construction with a green interior!
The unfinished EA 266
At the time, a different design was actually planned for the successor to the VW Beetle.
The project was called EA 266 and it was a mid-engined compact car that had been developed with the help of Porschen. The project was abandoned because it would have been too expensive, too problematic and would no longer have fitted into the landscape in the 1970s. This also meant that a pretty mid-engined roadster fell by the wayside, although it only existed on paper. Nevertheless, you can now take a look at this interesting car in the current issue of Auto Bild klassik.
It can also be more comfortable
If you want to buy an opulent business saloon instead of a meagre convertible, the comparison test of the late eighties alternatives Mercedes Benz 300 SE, Volvo 760, Toyota Crown and Buick Park Avenue will give you recommendations as to which of these cars is best suited to you.
Even 20 years and more after their presentation, however, hardly anything has changed in the ranking. If you want to know more, you should read the report.
The car enthusiast Julian Majzub
You may not know his name, but it is thanks to his enthusiasm and perseverance that there are really good tires for pre-war sports cars on sale again today, called "Blockley Tyres".
This was actually only an emergency solution because Majzub couldn't find suitable soling for its racers. But the portrait reveals even more.
The Alfetta family
For Alfisti, the report on the various models of the Alfetta family should be of interest.
Starting with the saloons and ending with the GTV6, a good overview of Berlinas and coupés is provided. The recommendation is to buy an early saloon or late GTV6. The report explains why.
The other Porsche 914/6
While there are hardly any body variants of the Porsche 911, the 914 inspired some coachbuilders, including Pietro Frua, Giorgetto Giugaro and Jacques Cooper, to create alternatives.
The variant presented as the Heuliez Murène, which is now finally allowed to drive on the roads after many years, is presented in the report.
They always come down
The current issue of Auto Bild klassik presents a series of flying cars that have been built since the 1940s under a very fitting title, although it also expresses a great deal of tragedy. None of them were actually successful, but some of them did fly. They are all interesting.
Of course, there is also news about the editorial Opel Monza, a trade fair preview and many small advertisements, as well as many other articles. Bernd Wieland and his colleagues have decided not to make any resolutions for 2015, which is a good thing.
