Ferruccio Lamborghini would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year on April 28. Just in time for this anniversary, Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi's AMBI Group has secured the film rights for a biopic about the life of the famous Italian entrepreneur. They plan to get behind the wheel as early as this summer to bring the life of the founder of the world-famous car company to the big screen by 2017.
Directed by Michael Mann, "Enzo Ferrari", a biopic about the founder of a famous Italian car company, is currently in development. Christian Bale was originally supposed to take on the role of the former racing driver and arch-enemy of Lamborghini, but he has since withdrawn from the project, so it will be interesting to see who will play the Commendatore.
From tractor to sports car
Lamborghini was an enthusiastic mechanic who set up a workshop in his parents' stable and then accidentally burned it down a short time later during welding work. He was then sent to the technical college in Bologna. A career that was interrupted by the Second World War. Back in his home country, he founded "Lamborghini Trattori". With the wreckage left behind in the fields by the war, he began to mobilize the agriculture of his home country from 1949.
Further business start-ups followed, his fortune accumulated and he finally bought himself a Ferrari. However, he soon noticed various shortcomings, but when he criticized Enzo Ferrari, he only received snooty replies such as: "You may know how to drive a tractor, but you'll never know how to handle a Ferrari." Lambroghini then decided to show Ferrari how to build a good sports car, shortly after which he founded "Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini", which bore his star sign, the bull, as its trademark. At least that's the legend, but the aforementioned meeting between Lamborghini and Ferrari is not historically verified. However, it is of course still suitable for a movie plot.
Support from Torino Lamborghini
The film will tell the story of an extraordinary man who helped an entire nation to get back on its feet after the world war and who designed a car that the international car industry will remember. The biopic will shed light on both the career and the private life of the Italian entrepreneur, tractor, automobile and helicopter designer. Lamborghini's son Torino will act as a consultant on the project about his father, who died in 1993.
More than cars, engines and career
"I am very proud to be making the film about this unique man who left a legacy that has had such a strong impact on the whole country," says Andrea Iervolino. "Ferruccio Lamborghini was a businessman who brought great honor to Italy and who contributed to bringing not only Italian cars but also all other products of the country back into people's consciousness. It is all the more admirable that he started out with nothing more than his great passion and a huge desire to lead a successful life - a wish that came true."
And Monika Bacardi adds: "But the biopic is not just about cars, engines and an indescribable career. There is also a fascinating, albeit little-known private life and a touching love story, which are also told in the film."
