Bernie Ecclestone appears to be planning a "Masters Series" in which Formula 1 veterans such as Gerhard Berger, Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet will compete against each other in Grand Prix racing cars from the 1990s. Similar to tennis, the idea is to create a senior league, so to speak.
The vehicles are Formula 1 cars with V10 engines that sound really loud and garish. The races will probably take place as part of the current Grand Prix, naming rights have already been purchased by Bernie Ecclestone.
Will this be a success? Hard to say. The risk for the drivers will play a significant role, because of course the cars were less safe back then than they are today and the drivers are no longer as fit as they were back then. Provided the rolling stock is really comparable, it should certainly be entertaining ...
