On Tuesday, 26 July 2016, more than 60 historic racing cars and motorcycles will roar through the up to 40-degree steep walls of the concrete oval and shake the 333-metre-long track where cyclists usually do their laps almost silently.
For the 14th time in a row, historic racing cars with two, three or four wheels return to the time-honored race track for the traditional "Indianapolis in Oerlikon" event.
Rattling for some, roaring for others: around 60 two-, three- and four-wheeled vintage racing cars will once again race along the track, which is inclined at an angle of almost 45 degrees. Some of the vehicles will reach well over 100 km/h on the 333.33 meter long concrete oval. Once again, all kinds of rarities will be on display at the event organized by Georg Kaufmann and his team: for example, a Morgan Three Wheeler from 1928, a Stutz Blackhawk DV32 from 1928, a Formula Ford Indy Monoposto from 1938 among the cars, an Indian Scout Racer from 1926, a Rudge-Ulster from 1934 or a BSA B50-T from 1971 among the motorcycles.
The Open Racecourse Oerlikon opens its doors and ticket offices at 2.00 pm. The participating vehicles can be viewed inside from 3.00 pm. The first of the four planned demonstrations on the track starts at 6.00 pm. At 6.30 p.m., the cycle races will begin. The highlight will be a standing race behind heavy pacemaker engines. The program is subject to change. The race finishes at 22.00 hrs.
In case of bad weather, the presentation will be postponed to the following Thursday, July 28, 2016.
And to get a small insight into the event in advance, it is worth taking a look at our reports from 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
