According to the organizers, the Bernina Gran Turismo hill climb will never have more than around 80 starters. This guarantees a family atmosphere, plenty of driving time on the course and ultimately the safety of all participants.
The fact that these starting places are in high demand is shown by the fact that they were almost 100% overbooked when the registration deadline came at the end of June.
Six heats
On September 21 and 22, 80 selected racing cars will tackle the route between La Rösa and the top of the Bernina Pass. After the vehicle inspection and drivers' briefing on Friday, two practice and race runs are planned for Saturday, while two more race runs will take place on Sunday.
Of course, the hope is that the weather will be good, as in previous years the weather has occasionally been inglorious with rain and fog.
Exciting field of vehicles
In previous years, extremely rare and attractive vehicles, such as a Ferrari 250 GTO, an Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 or an Aston Martin DB 2/4 Bertone, have always been at the start. Depending on the class, the race will be based on best time or equal time.
We can assume that the 2019 starting field will be no less interesting. The Alpine panorama has nothing to fear from comparison anyway.
