The Goodwood Festival of Speed will take place from June 23-26, 2016 and the Goodwood Revival from September 9-11, 2016. Despite the time remaining until then, the organizers are already busy planning and preparing. Goodwood has now announced the theme for the Festival of Speed and the first drivers to take part in the Revival have also been confirmed.
Exciting theme and many anniversaries
The theme for the 2016 Festival of Speed, to be held June 23-26, is "Full Throttle - The Endless Pursuit of Power" and celebrates the most powerful cars and motorcycles from the history of motorsports, as well as the legendary drivers who raced them.
As every year, the event kicks off on Thursday (June 23) with the "Moving Motor Show", where many of the world's successful car manufacturers will showcase their latest models, as well as many exciting and innovative concepts.
In honor of Sir Jack Brabham
The Goodwood Revival is the world's largest historic motorsport event and also a vintage culture festival. The event, which takes place from September 9-11, 2016, aims to bring back to life the glory days of the Goodwood Motor Circuit as an active race track from 1948-66, as it does every year.
The revival will celebrate racing driver Sir Jack Brabham. The Australian is the only driver in history to win the Formula 1 World Championship in a car bearing his own name.
Brabham drove and tested a number of cars at Goodeood during his career and was also victorious in numerous races at the Motor Circuit. An impressive collection of single-seater racing cars as well as sports and touring cars will be on site, showcasing the range of cars Brabham raced at Goodwood back in the day. Some of them will also be on display in demonstration runs "in the footsteps of Brabham".
Many legendary racing drivers at the start
Many other well-known names from the world of motorsport will also be taking part in Goodwood. Among them is the best Grand Prix motorcycle rider of all time, Valentino Rossi, followed by world champions on two wheels Casey Stoner, Freddie Spencer and John Surtees. In addition, the Formula 1 title winners Jensen Button and Sir Jackie Stewart, the US legends Don "Big Daddy" Gardist, Richard Petty and Ken Block and the Le Mans winners Tom Kristensen, Derek Bell and Emanuele Pirro.
Anticipation is rising
Following this announcement, anticipation is already building and Lord March is also excited: "The theme for the 2016 Festival of Speed allows us to see some of the most spectacular machines in the history of motorsport, many of which have never been seen before in our country. With vehicles ranging from turbo Formula 1 cars and 1980s Grand Prix 'ride-around' bikes to next-generation Can-Am cars and even dragster and land speed record vehicles, the Festival of Speed is set to be a very special event. In addition, this year's Revival will be dedicated to Sir Jack Brabham, a man with an active past on the Motor Circuit and a strong connection to Goodwood, who has always been a very popular guest at the Festival of Speed and the Revival."
Tickets and accommodation for both events are now available to purchase online on the Goodwood website.
