On September 12-14, it's that time again and for many fans of historic racing it will probably be the event of the year, the Goodwood Revival.
Cautious adjustments
The Sussex Trophy for sports and racing cars from 1955 to 1960 will now take place on Friday evenings, last significantly longer, include driver changes and run until dusk, thus recalling the famous multi-hour races at Goodwood.
Giedo van der Garde, the current Sauber F1 test driver, will take his seat in a Shelby Cobra at the Goodwood Revival and compete in the RAC Tourist Trophy Celebration race for closed cars from 1960 to 1964, racing against Ferrari 250 GTOs, Jaguar E-Types, Aston Martins and various other legendary sports cars.
Sports and touring cars
The Freddie March Memorial Trophy will bring together the sports cars that took part in the famous nine-hour races at Goodwood between 1952 and 1955, i.e. Jaguar C-Type, Aston Martin DB3/DB3S, Austin-Healey 100S, Ferrari 750, Allard and HWM.
As every year, a highlight will be the St. Mary's Trophy, which in 2014 will be dedicated to the touring cars of the fifties - Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Austin A35, Ford Zephyr, Jaguar Mk I, MG Magnette, Morris Minor, Standard 10, etc. - and is sure to be spectacular once again. - and is sure to provide spectacular racing action once again. Teams of two, made up of well-known racing drivers and amateur drivers, will compete in two races for the coveted winner's trophy.
Shelby Cup specialty
To mark the 60th anniversary of the V8 small block, a separate race will be held for vehicles with this engine, in which the Ford Falcon, Plymouth Barracuda, Mercury Comet Cyclone, Dodge Dart and Ford Mustangs will compete against each other.
After the Whitsun Trophy was dedicated to the Ford GT 40 in 2013, the usual suspects will be back in 2014, including the Lola T70, McLaren M1 and other fast cars that once roared down the endless Mulsanne straight at Le Mans.
The Fordwater Trophy will bring together production sports cars and GT cars from 1960 to 1966 and will feature a colorful international field, with TVR Granturas racing against Morgan Plus 4s, Rochdales, Alfa Romeos, Ferraris, Lotus and MGs.
Monoposti and Jackie Stewart
Five single-seater fields complete the event where, as every year, racegoers are asked to come in period dress and accessories.
Jackie Stewart will be celebrated in a special tribute and one can hope for an interesting line-up of cars from his long racing life.
