Artcurial's 117 vehicles were estimated to have a total value of 33.4 million euros (currently CHF 33.7 million). This results in an average price of Euro 285,350 (CHF 288,204), at which Maître Poulain is expected to lower the hammer on February 6. 37% of the offers will be sold without a reserve price.

Brand diversity

As always at Artcurial, there is a wide range of vehicles on offer. It comes from a total of 47 brands and is dominated by Ferrari (11 vehicles), Porsche (9), Maserati (8) and Mercedes-Benz (6). On the other side of the spectrum, there is a whole range of brands, each represented by one vehicle, including Amphicar, Bizzarrini, Darmont, Delage, Fouillaron, Imperal, Iso and Tracta.

Expensive Ferrari sports cars

The most valuable car at the auction is a Ferrari 275 GTB/2 with a "long nose" from 1968, estimated at between €2.75 million and €3.25 million. The estimate for a 275 GTB from 1966 in silver paintwork is somewhat lower, with an estimate of €1.5 to 2.0 million.

Of course, you might expect to see a few Bugatti cars at an Artcurial auction, and indeed there are four of them, a Type 40 Grand Sportfrom 1929 (Euro 220,000 to 280'000), a Type 43 Grand Sport 3/4 Place from 1928 (Euro 2 to 3 million), a Type 44 with aerodynamic Gangloff bodywork from 1928 (Euro 250,000 to 300,000) and a Type 55 Cabriolet from 1932 (Euro 1.3 to 1.7 million).

Rarity Tracta Grégoire

Just four Tracta Grégoire Sport Cabriolets were built in the 1950s.

In 1956, two of them were on display at the Paris Motor Show, the price was higher than that of a Facel Vega FVS, which was equipped with an eight-cylinder engine. In contrast, Jean Albert Grégoire was only able to field four cylinders in his sports car, which was fitted by Chapron, but thanks to the supercharger, the power output of the boxer engine was quite considerable at 120 hp. And too much would not have been sensible, because otherwise the driven front wheels would no longer have been controllable.

One of the four (or were there a few more?) Tracta Grégoire built over many years of family ownership is now being offered on February 6, 2015 for between EUR 100,000 and 130,000 in good condition, but without a supercharger.

Four Lamborghini from Emilia Romagna also came under the hammer, not the Miura or Countach models, but an Islero, a Jarama, an Espada and an LM002.

Italian gems

The Morretti 1200 Spider Michelotti from 1955, which looks like a blue Mini Cobra but was built well before that, catches the eye at the auction.

The little car owes its lines to Michelotti and was shown at the Brussels Motor Show in 1955. In restored condition, the sports car is now expected to cost between 350,000 and 450,000 euros, which is quite a lot of money per horsepower.

For considerably less money, a beach car version of the Multpla, called the "Mare", can also be purchased from Moretti or you can go straight for the pretty Abarth 750 Zagato, which is listed for between 120,000 and 140,000 euros.
