Over 500 participants will battle for positions in at least twelve series during the 2014 Bosch Hockenheim Historic, cheered on by around 20,000 spectators.
Lotus in focus
In addition to thrilling motorsport, visitors will be thrilled by the extensive supporting program with autograph sessions and the design award ceremony for racing cars and a special prize for the most beautiful Lotus.
Another highlight will be a world record attempt with Lotus cars in honor of the legendary exceptional driver Jim Clark.
For this to succeed, at least 437 Lotus cars - with no age limit - must complete a lap around the 4.574 km long Grand Prix circuit of the Hockenheimring.
It is therefore to be expected that the Lotus brand will also play a central role in terms of number and variety on the large club grounds.
Scottish Formula 1 world champion Jim Clark was killed in an accident on April 7, 1968 in the first Formula 2 race for the Martini Gold Cup at the Hockenheimring. In his memory, the organizer presents an attractive Formula 2 starting field every year in addition to the Lotus focal points.
In 2014, around 20 Formula 2 cars with illustrious names such as March and Lotus will once again compete in a memorial race. Overall, the Bosch Hockenheim Historic offers a spectrum of Formula cars like no other historic event in Europe. Monoposti from the sixties, seventies and eighties invite spectators on a unique journey through time.
Formula 1 cars at the start
In 2014, the historic Formula 1 racing cars will operate under the umbrella of Race Club Germany. Around 20 historic Formula 1 cars are also expected to take part in the invitational race for the Jim Clark Cup. In addition, a demonstration race for "more contemporary" Formula 1 cars with a focus on Toyota will take place this year under the Race History on Track label.
Exciting duels in the FIA Lurani Trophy
Another crowd-puller is the FIA Lurani Trophy, which is characterized by its thrilling duels. The roots of this series go back to 1958. Back then, Count Johnny Lurani launched a junior class for Italian Grand Prix drivers in Monza.
The idea worked - internationally. Top drivers such as Jim Clark, John Surtees, Mike Spence and Peter Arundell earned their first spurs in the small monoposti. The popularity of the Formula Junior class under the name FIA Lurani Trophy remains unbroken to this day.
Brutal sports prototypes
The sports prototypes - vehicles from the former Interseries and the CanAm class - are also historically linked to the Hockenheimring. These cars with up to eight liters of displacement race according to Appendix K.
Mainly participants from the established two-liter Super Sports Festival series as well as a few selected starters from the Canadian-American Challenge Cup are expected. The spectacular starting field will be supplemented by participants from the English Martini Trophy Series. As soon as the starting signal is given, the asphalt will begin to shake and take the audience back to the seventies.
The dwarves are coming back
Racing touring cars in all displacement classes - above all the displacement dwarfs - round off this first-class motorsport weekend. The three series Abarth-Coppa- Mille, British-Car-Trophy and NSU-TT-Trophy traditionally hold their season opener at the Hockenheimring.
Small cars such as the Mini Cooper, NSU TT, DKW Junior, Steyr-Puch 650TR, Abarth OT, SS or TC Autobianchi A-112 or Fiat 127 from the 60s and 70s compete under the motto "Battle of the Dwarves ". Almost all of the vehicles have a veritable racing history. For more than a decade, the battle of the midgets, with one of the largest starting fields ever, has been a fixture in historic motorsport. At least 50 vehicles are expected at the Bosch Hockenheim Historic 2014.
Not just there, but right in the middle of it
The admission prices remain family-friendly. Direct access to the pits gives particularly interested visitors the unique opportunity to look over the mechanics' shoulders as they carry out repairs and preparations. The fans are therefore not just there, but literally right in the middle of it.
