At the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix from August 9 to 11, 2019, the Nürburgring will be dedicated to historic motorsport for three days. Races will be held in 14 vehicle classes and spectators will experience 20 individual races on the track alone as well as regularity tests and parades. Now that the schedule has been finalized, visitors and teams can plan their weekend - and they are spoilt for choice. Because there is one highlight after another on every day of the event. Whether it's the pre-war racing cars from the Vintage Sports Car Trophy or the Formula 1 cars from the Cosworth era, the sportscars and prototypes from the Group 5 era or the touring cars from the DTM: the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix promises a reunion with legendary vehicles that are associated with the memories of great races.
And of course they also prove in the exciting and action-packed races that they have lost none of their fascination and performance. If you would like to secure your ticket for the weekend, you can call the hotline on 0180 5 311210 (€0.14/min. from a German landline, mobile max. €0.42/min.). Ticket information as well as news and the schedule for downloading are available on the official homepage www.avd-ogp.de.
The AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix weekend will be a real feast for classic car fans again this year. There will be more than 30 hours of program on the three days of the event on the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit. And if you are curious about the cars, you can even take a look on Thursday, when many teams take the opportunity to put the historic vehicles through their paces during the test and set-up runs. Friday then sees the qualifying sessions and the battle for grid positions. The sporting highlight of the day will be the two races in the late afternoon, when the newly added "A Gentle Drivers Trophy" will hold its first race. The pre-war vehicles will then take to the track for their first regularity test (GLP). In addition to the GLPs, the "Vintage Sports Car Trophy" also includes participation in a touristic drive and two drives on the Nordschleife (Saturday/Sunday).
Highlight: evening race on Saturday
Saturday alone offers over 13 hours of motorsport at the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix. Nine races are on the program that day, including the 90-minute endurance race of the Gentlemen Drivers GT up to 1965. The highlight of the sporting program will also take place at the end of the day: After the race of the spectacular GTs, sports cars and prototypes in the Aston Martin Masters Endurance Legends, the legendary Le Mans cars of the 1950s will take to the grid: the two-seater racing cars and GTs up to 1960/61 will race for just over an hour into the dusk from 8:20 pm and will traditionally be greeted with fireworks after crossing the finish line on the run-out lap. Anyone who has ever experienced a race of these beautiful sports cars with its atmosphere of endurance racing and historic enthusiasm knows that this race is not to be missed - even if it continues at full throttle on Sunday morning. Ten races are scheduled from 8:15 a.m., representing the entire spectrum of the weekend program. Longer races will be contested by the AvD Touring Car and GT Trophy as well as the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship. Two highlights will then conclude the program in the afternoon: the DTM cars of the Touring Car Classics, which will contest a 40-minute race, and the touring cars and GTs from the German Racing Championship, which this year for the first time will start together with the FHR 100-Mile Trophy (historic GTs) and promises a large, action-packed field.
Histo Tour with the Nürburgring as the destination
The AvD's Histo Tour offers an alternative for those who want to be sporty with their classic car but shy away from racing. The two-day summer rally leads through the Eifel and Ardennes on August 8 and 9 and offers not only scenic routes but also fun on the race track. In Spa-Francorchamps as well as on the Grand Prix circuit and Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, the old and youngtimers built up to 1998 will take part in regularity tests. After the start on Wednesday afternoon (August 7) in Bad Neuenahr, the Grand Prix circuit of the Nürburgring is first on the program on Thursday. On Friday, the "Ardennes rollercoaster" in Spa-Francorchamps will be tackled first, followed by the Nordschleife in the afternoon. The lunch stop in the drivers' team hospitality area in the middle of the paddock and the award ceremony party in the AvD VIP Lounge at the Nürburgring as part of the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix will be the perfect conclusion to the event. As the weekend ticket is included for every participant, an extension is obviously a good idea.
