It's not every day that someone pulls a Dino 246 GT with probably less than 20,000 km on the clock out of a forgotten dwelling. And if the car is still in the rare color "Verdi Pino", equipped with the sought-after headlight covers and Daytona seats, then the collectors are usually on the edge of their seats.
The history of the car is as unusual as the find. This Dino had been missing since 1975. The car had two owners, the first only kept it for a year and then sold it on to the second owner, who had died in the meantime. This man was a well-known motorcycle racer who was not only one of the fastest on the race track. He was almost caught by the police on a ride home in the Dino, but, quick as he was, he gave the police the slip, but afterwards no longer dared to use the Dino. And obviously forgot it in his garage.
So now we would be looking forward to an almost untouched, drained dinosaur if the garage hadn't had a hole in it and the dinosaur had therefore become a victim of the red devil. Now, 39 years later, it is back in the light of day and presents itself as a restoration object, if the math works out. At least there is room for more elaborate work at the current Dino prices.
How much a collector will pay for this green coupé is anyone's guess for the time being. But we will know on May 24, when Silverstone Auctions will be auctioning the Dino with no reserve price.
