At Techno-Classica Essen, over 220 classic car clubs and interest groups will be lovingly putting the spotlight on classic makes and models, and they will certainly be good for a surprise or two again this year.
Topics on the exhibition stands
Some clubs and IGs have already announced which topics they will be focusing on. Nevertheless, the majority of exhibitors are relying on the surprise effect with the opening at Techno-Classica Essen. The focus is often on a jubilee or a special feature of a brand that provides a glimpse into the history of the brand. In the Club Grand Prix, the S.I.H.A. awards prizes to the most beautiful club stands, yet another incentive for the clubs and IGs to really go the extra mile.
Mercedes-Benz with 17 clubs
A total of 17 clubs represented at Techno-Classica will be focusing on Mercedes-Benz cars, making it the most strongly represented brand, with many familiar and sometimes legendary models on display in Hall 1, such as the W123, W124, R129 SL, SLK, 190 SL, W201, Unimog, S-Class, MB off-road vehicles and many more.
50 years of MG C
The MG Drivers Club Germany is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the MG C and is making it the focus of its trade fair activities. The first MG C rolled out of the factory in 1967 and supplemented the MG B in terms of performance. A total of around 9,000 of the Roadster and Coupé were built, one of which will also be on display at Techno-Classica.
Old Opel IG
"Large Opel cars" is the theme of the Old Opel Interest Group, which traditionally organizes its stand in cooperation with Adam Opel AG. The former luxury cars of the K-A-D series, Opel Kapitän, Admiral and Diplomat will be staged in Essen.
Carl F. W. Borgward IG
Can you handle a traffic jam or a car breakdown on the single-lane highway calmly and with humor? The Bogenwart interest group thinks it knows how. Deckchairs and luggage next to the smoking car and skat games on the hood...
Z-Club-Germany
The Z-Club-Germany is not putting on a Muppet show, but a Moppet show. The 40-year-old Kawasaki Z1000 takes center stage, surrounded by characters such as Opi's Waldorf and Statler from the Muppet Show.
VW Polo IG Germany
It has already been 30 years since a small powerhouse was launched on the market in a limited special series of 1500 units - the VW Polo GT G40. This model is now being put in the spotlight at the Techno-Classica by the VW Polo IG Deutschland, unrestored as a barn find and completely rebuilt.
Edeltraut tuning
Opel built two Kadett C-GT/E series, which were introduced in 1975 and 1977. Along with the Golf GTI and Ford Escort II RS, these cars were among the co-founders of the class of compact, small, light and powerful cult vehicles of the 1970s. Edeltraut will be exhibiting one vehicle from each of the two series at the Techno-Classica.
Ro80 Club International
The 50th anniversary of the NSU Ro80 is being celebrated this year. The saloon with the wedge-shaped body rolled off the production line for the first time in 1967, and the Ro80 Club International is taking this as an opportunity to place a fully restored Ro80 at the center of the exhibition and to provide visitors with all the important information about the Ro80.
W201 e.V.
The W201 Association has been working since 2005 to preserve this vehicle for today's streetscape and will also be present in Essen with this aim in mind. Mercedes-Benz set new standards with the W201. As the Mercedes-Benz 190 and 190E, the saloon achieved great popularity, and so the motto for the exhibition stand is well chosen - "35 years of the W201 - still modern."
Alfaclub e.V.
The Alfaclub is celebrating three milestone birthdays at Techno-Classica. The Alfa Romeo Giulietta (transaxle, Type 116) was presented 40 years ago, the Alfa Romeo 164 turns 30 this year and the Alfa Romeo 156 has also been around for 20 years. So there are some Alfa Romeo anniversaries to marvel at this year.
