This is already the 28th edition of the auction at "The Quail Lodge" in Carmel in the vicinity of the Pebble Beach Concours, which Bonhams is organizing on 15 August 2025. 97 cars, two motorcycles and a trailer with a total value of USD 50.11 million are looking for new owners, plus some automobilia.
An average of at least USD 500,000 per car is therefore expected.
Divided offer
On average, the cars are a good 42 years old, but this figure does not do justice to the characteristics of the offer. This is largely split into two parts. Two thirds of the vehicles are made up of the typical cross-section of pre-war cars, post-war classic cars and more recent classics, while the last third are very young vehicles that are not even youngtimer age.
In fact, these 35 cars are at most 16 years old, but on average four years young. The value of these 35 cars alone is over 33 million American dollars.
Eleven pre-war classics
The pre-war selection is made up of American and European rarities.
The showpieces are certainly the Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 B as a Mille Miglia Berlinetta Touring from 1938 and the Bentley Eight Liter Sports Tourer from 1932.
The Bugatti Avio 8C from 1919, which is equipped with an aircraft engine with eight cylinders, is certainly also interesting.
Super classics
Among the super classics, the Ferrari 250 GT Europa from 1956 certainly stands out.
Offered for USD 1.7 to 2 million, chassis 0427 GT is the car that was on display at the 1956 Brussels Motor Show and has a racing history.
Of course, a gullwing is not missing from Bonhams' offer. The 300 SL from 1956 is expected to cost USD 1.35 to 1.55 million.
For Lamborghini fans there is an Espada from 1973 or a tractor.
American classics such as the Ford Thunderbird or the Chevrolet Corvette are also represented several times.
High-priced new classics
The most expensive cars in the auction, all of which will go under the hammer without a reserve price, are without exception young super and hyper sports cars.
The front-runner is a Bugatti Divo from 2020, the first Divo to be auctioned, according to Bonhams. USD 7 to 9 million is expected here.
Around half as much can be invested in one of the two Bugatti Chiron models, while the two Pagani Huayra models from 2017 and 2022 are worth slightly less.
The Apollo Intensa Emozione "Ocean Dragon" from 2022 and the Koenigsegg Regera from 2021 are also expected to fetch well over USD 2 million.
One of 20 Audi Sport quattro S1 E2s
Twenty examples were built, four are in private hands, one can be bid on in Carmel on August 15, 2025, the Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 from 1985 with chassis with the internal number RE10.
According to Bonhams, it was used in the 1985 Lombard RAC Rally and driven by Hannu Mikkola at the time. However, with an estimate of USD 1.75 to 2.225 million, the Audi will not be given away cheaply.
In addition to the Audi, there is also a Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 from 1984, a Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16 V from 1990 and a factory Nissan Skyline RTS Turbo DR30 Group A from 1984 up for auction.
Bonhams' offering is diverse, but the absence of typical British classics, which one would have expected here, is surprising. There are no vehicles from Aston Martin, Austin-Healey or Jensen in the catalog. Instead, American classics are well represented. However, the most exciting thing will certainly be the performance of the new classics, which will go under the hammer without a reserve price.
