The Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato 1961
The Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato was an exclusive sports car with British engineering and Italian bodywork. The car was created in 1960 and 1961 in collaboration between Aston Martin and the Zagato coachbuilder in Milan. Designed by Ercole Spada, it is considered one of the most beautiful cars ever built.
With starting number 1 at Le Mans 1961
Armed in this way, Jean Kerguen and his co-driver Jacques Dewez - pseudonym Franc - started the race from the front of the grid alongside two other Astons from the English racing team ERS. The start was excellent and the car ran perfectly and without any faults to the delight of its drivers and the entire racing team. The only mechanical intervention during the race was the replacement of the brake pads after 14 hours and a clutch readjustment after 16 hours of racing.
When Kerguen's Zagato came into the pits for the last time after 23 hours, it was in ninth position overall and the prospects of an excellent result were promising. Jacques Dewez was ready to tackle the final 50 minutes when he realized that the engine would not start after pressing the starter button. Hasty checks, carried out by expert Des O Dell himself, revealed no visible defects when checking the battery and all visible cable connections as well as the external inspection of the starter.
So after 286 successful laps, or 50 minutes before the end of the race, the team was deeply disappointed and had to abandon the race. Until the retirement, the vehicle was in third place in its class.
Also in blue
In addition to the white Le Mans version, CMC also offers a blue racing version, which is limited to just 1000 units. This is a few more than the original, which was ultimately only built 19 times, but ultimately the model also costs a few euros less, the price for the blue version is also 379 euros (including VAT, but plus shipping costs).
Both models can be viewed and ordered at modelcar.de.
