The era of Maybach automobiles began just over 100 years ago. On September 23, 1921, Friedrichshafen-based Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH presented its first series-produced car to the public with the premiere of the "Type 22/ 70PS W3" - its debut at the German Motor Show in Berlin.
A century later and 700 kilometers further south, this zeitgeist will be revived at Motorworld Classics Bodensee in Friedrichshafen from 6 to 8 May 2022.
The traveling exhibition of the Wilhelm and Karl Maybach Foundation in cooperation with the Freundeskreis Maybach Museum e.V. will convey the feeling of innovation in connection with regional success stories to the public at the trade fair for classic mobility.
Inventiveness
At the beginning of the last century, it was also Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH that built the first car with four-wheel brakes as standard, making it possible for any driving enthusiast to drive without changing gear. Meticulous precision, high-quality materials and materials as well as the absolute highest operational safety stand for the sophisticated vehicles of the Friedrichshafen-based company. Several extensively restored Maybach swing-axle cars from the private collections of Maybach Club members as well as the Maybach Foundation exhibition will be on display at the Friends of the Maybach Museum e.V. stand.
A look back at 100 years of history
The pop-up concept "100 Years of Maybach Automobiles 1921-2021" tells the multifaceted history of the automobile manufacturer. The focus is on the development line of the car models and the presentation of the Mercedes Maybach vehicles relaunched in 2002. "After a two-year break due to the pandemic, we are particularly pleased that our trade fair can finally take place in full again.
The stand of the Freundeskreis Maybach Museum e.V. is a real highlight for the numerous trade fair visitors. We are therefore looking forward with great anticipation to the presentation of the traditional models, a series of historic swing-axle cars and a unique Maybach body that we will be able to show the trade fair visitors," says project manager Roland Bosch enthusiastically.
Other selected objects that will be on display on the stand are from the fields of automotive engineering, motor racing and corporate culture and will be presented using exhibit photography. In addition to the numerous opportunities to view the mobility classics, visitors will also have the chance to become active themselves. Fourteen themed modules invite visitors to explore the unique vehicle history, automobile portraits, digitized exhibits and eyewitness accounts interactively.
Eleven halls with classic cars and modern classics, as well as ships and airplanes
The overall concept of the trade fair this year includes many more "must-sees" that can be seen in the eleven halls. These include eleven historic aircraft, rare Riva boats, the presentation of the eight Mercedes Clubs, the Ace Café and Vintage Racing.
At the same time as the trade fair for classic mobility, the Bodensee-Klassik Rallye makes its rounds in the Lake Constance district and the Allgäu region. The 120 or so cars can be seen entering the exhibition grounds in the afternoons of Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7.
