The legend that Ferruccio Lamborghini became a sports car manufacturer because he was dissatisfied with his Ferrari has since been disproved. However, he still had the ambition to outdo the competition from Modena. After Lamborghini had revolutionised sports car construction with the Miura and stylistically with the Countach, the company ran into financial difficulties in the mid-1970s. This resulted in several changes of ownership and a greatly reduced model programme. Lamborghini has been a subsidiary of Audi since 1998.

Car fans once dreamed of top-of-the-range or super sports cars. Since the turn of the millennium, however, hypercars have been regarded as the ultimate in automotive transportation. But whether they offer real driving pleasure is doubtful. Compared to later creations, the Lamborghini 350 GT and 400 GT 2+2 were the much less radical first works of tractor manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini in the field of luxury sports cars. They laid the foundations for the Miura, Countach and Diablo and, despite their unconventional appearance, impressed test drivers with their performance and quality. The Gran Turismo clientele, then as now, tended to keep a low profile, preferring established models from Stuttgart or Maranello. In 1967, the Lamborghini Miura was one of the most progressive sports cars you could buy. This made it a thorn in the side not only of Ferrari, but also of many other vehicle manufacturers. Public interest was great. Hobby magazine was given the private Miura of opera singer Grace Bumbry for a test drive. The report not only allows conclusions to be drawn about the sensational driving performance of the Miura, but also makes people smile.
The most beautiful car at the 1968 Brussels Motor Show was the Miura Spider. After a further 800,000 francs were later invested in "galvanizing" the car, it remained "the most beautiful", but had become even more exclusive. Years later, the car mutated back to its original form. This report tells the story of the one-off, illustrated with some rare photographs.
Just 327 examples of the Lamborghini Jarama, including the S model, were produced between 1970 and 1976. This makes the front-engined Gran Turismo one of the rarest Lamborghinis ever. Whether it is also one of the most beautiful - despite its design by Marcello Gandini - is a matter of opinion. This report describes the brief history of the Jarama and allows the reader to take part in a test drive. It is supplemented by historical photos and the digitized original brochure.
Both Lamborghini and Bertone exhibited the Miura SV at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show. It was the last version of this famous model. It was now fully developed and all teething troubles had been cured. Nevertheless, little attention was paid to the car; the reason for this was simple: next to the Miura stood an even more impressive model, the Countach LP 500, a car that degraded all other sports cars to the status of staid family carriages. This report goes into the history of the Countach and shows the car in all its facets and the various stages of evolution. However, the early photos of the prototypes and the pictures from production are particularly unique.
From 1970 to 1976/78, Lamborghini built the Jarama as the 400 GT and 400 GTS. The front-engined coupé was a Granturismo of the purest school, a sports car that you could even take out of the garage to get bread rolls. Only 327 examples were built, so they are rarely seen and when they do drive past, many passers-by don't even notice them because of their understated styling. This driving report tells the story of the Jarama and portrays an example from 1976 in many pictures. Of course, the sound sample and historical footage are also included.
Between 1973 and 1979, Lamborghini built a three-digit number of Urraco. Equipped with a V8 mid-engine, it was ahead of its time when it was presented in 1970, but for various reasons was unable to convert this lead into commercial success. Lamborghini Murciélago - Respect
The Lamborghini Murciélago celebrated its premiere 20 years ago as the successor to the Diablo and for many owners it is regarded as the last true heir to the Miura, Countach and Diablo. The influence of Audi was reflected in the better quality and greater suitability for everyday use, but the Murciélago remained a leisure car for most owners. We wanted to find out more about this and set out to test it ourselves.
