Preview (beginning of the article)
The RM Auctions London auction on October 31, 2012 had been eagerly awaited and it was hoped that it would take the pulse of the classic car market, which has often been described as overheated. Wide range on offer 81 classic and vintage cars were finally called up after the withdrawal of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Zagato and a Ferrari 275 GTS, in addition to several motorcycles and newer vehicles. The total value of the classics on offer amounted to around £18 million (average estimate). The average estimated price was almost £220,000 per vehicle. As many as a third of the lots were sold with "no reserve", i.e. without a minimum price.
