Gooding & Co "Passion of a Lifetime" 2020 - around 40 million in 100 minutes
Summary
If money were no object, many a classic car collection would probably look something like the one that Charlie Ross and David Gooding from Gooding & Co auctioned off on September 5 at the Hampton Court Palace Concours d'Elégance near London. The 15 automobiles were a testament to their owner's taste and understanding of history. Together they were valued at over £40 million. 14 of the 15 cars were sold within 100 minutes for EUR 38 or CHF 41 million. Only the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato was left standing, for now. Auction house Gooding & Co traveled across the Atlantic for the first time to hold an auction in Europe. Until now, David Gooding and Charlie Ross, the British-born auctioneer, have always worked in the USA, in Scottsdale, Amelia Island and Pebble Beach respectively. Their auctions are among the most exclusive events on the collectors' scene and countless records have been set over the years. The "Passion of a Lifetime" collection brought Gooding and Ross to Europe. You can't blame them. 15 cars from Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Lancia, Vauxhall and Rolls-Royce with an average age of 78 years came under the hammer on September 5, 2020 at the Hampton Court Palace Concours d'Elégance near London. Originally, the auction was to have been held on April 1, 2020 at Somerset House / London, but Covid-19 got in the way of Gooding. This should not turn out to be a disadvantage for the cars, because the results on September 5, 2020 were great. They had also made a real effort and each car was presented with a very tasteful video before David and Charlie took the floor.
