Summary
For decades, hundreds of vintage cars, some of which were quite rare and highly sought-after when restored, languished in a car cemetery in Kaufdorf. The descriptions of this special "installation" ranged from total work of art to environmental sin. In the end, the rule of law took its course and on September 19, 2009, the frail rarities were auctioned off. After years of back and forth with the municipality of Kaufdorf, all ideas of a "national park for historical cultural assets" or similar fantasies were nipped in the bud. The football field-sized car cemetery from the 1930s to 1960s had to be cleared. The fragile rarities went under the hammer in a large-scale auction. A few of the vehicles sold for surprisingly high prices, even though a Komlet restoration was unavoidable. A year later, there is hardly any trace of the magic left. The site has been cleared, nature is largely unspoiled again, the humus sees the sun again, the foxes have had to look for new places to sleep, the birds lack many nesting opportunities and even the snails have to reorient themselves.
