There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. One of these vanished brands is Borgward. The private German limousine manufacturer Carl F. W. Borgward had talent and was gifted. His models were modern and innovative. Nevertheless, the competition was stronger.

Carl F. W. Borgward is one of those special talents who came from nowhere, so to speak, and went on to achieve great things. His career stages included locksmith, university graduate, design engineer, senior engineer, partner and finally owner. The latter initially of supplier companies, then gradually of a small car manufacturing empire in Bremen. In 1939, the first cars were built under his name. In 1949, the Borgward Hansa 1500 was the first German post-war design to be exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show. The Borgward was characterized by a modern shape and technical innovations. The Isabella model launched in 1954, affectionately known as the Isabella by many Swiss buyers, became a household name. An elegant two-door mid-range saloon that successfully positioned itself alongside the Opel Olympia Rekord, Ford Taunus 15 M and others. Six-cylinder Borgward models were also produced, as well as smaller models under the Goliath (Hansa from 1958/59) and Lloyd brands.
