Summary
On January 17, 2019, Bonhams auctioned 120 classic cars with an average age of 51 years in Scottsdale. The total value of the vehicles on offer was estimated at over USD 40 million, but the auction turnover ultimately amounted to USD 15.5 million, as expensive cars such as the Ferrari 500 Mondial and the Porsche 904 GTS in particular failed to find a new owner. In contrast, the Maserati A6G/2000 and the Fiat 1100C with Frua bodies were sold. Some super classics also passed into new hands. The sales quota amounted to 89 percent, which was also due to the high proportion (83%) of no-reserve lots. On average, interested parties bid 75 percent of the median estimate. This auction report analyzes the results and shows all the cars in the picture.

Once again, Bonhams not only opened the 2019 auction year on January 17, 2019, but also the series of major international auctions in Scottsdale. 120 interesting cars worth over USD 40 million were on offer. With an average age of 51 years and a dominance of cars from Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and Ferrari, the Bonhams auction fitted in well with the general trend. Bidders and observers were naturally curious to see how classic car prices would develop in general and whether the estimated values could be confirmed with corresponding bids. An impressive 96 cars, i.e. 83 percent of the offer, were offered without a reserve price. These were not only particularly affordable classics, but also cars in the upper price range such as the Mercedes 500K or Porsche 911 S 2.4.
