Summary
It was not the usual selection of super classics that you usually see at auctions. Bonhams had put together a very special selection on March 20, 2016 on the occasion of the Goodwood Member Meeting, as the 99 lots included two fighter planes, a boat, a scooter and two horse-drawn carriages as well as a license plate, in keeping with the airfield on the Goodwood circuit. And it was precisely the latter that attracted surprisingly high bids, while some of the cars could be bought cheaply, as this auction report summarizes.

Lot 1 was the license plate "S5", issued in 1905 and estimated at £ 150,000 to £ 180,000. However, this was not enough, as the buyer had to pay a whopping £ 270,300 (347,183 euros or 379,090 euros) to obtain the coveted registration. For this sum, he could have bought the 25 cheapest lots in the auction or, for example, a Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Cabriolet from 1924.
