Summary
On the occasion of the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2019, Bonhams put an impressive array of classic cars under the hammer on July 5, 2019. However, the bidders were not quite willing to go along with the proposed estimated prices, meaning that in the end only just under half of the vehicles were sold. However, the flagship, the Williams-Renault FW14B of Nigel Mansell from 1992, found a new owner who was prepared to pay over EUR 3 million, or CHF 3.4 million. Only six vehicles were bid for more than expected. This auction article analyzes the results and shows pictures of all the vehicles.

Preview (beginning of the article)
There were 84 cars that went under the hammer at the Bonhams Auction on July 5, 2019 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. While the racing cars thundered up the hill outside, the typical Goodwood mix of racing and road cars worth over EUR 25 million was looking for new owners. Chassis FW14-08, a Williams-Renault FW14B from 1992 with Nigel Mansell and Riccardo Patrese at the wheel, won five Grand Prix victories. The monoposto is regarded as Adrian Newey's top achievement and was probably the most sophisticated and complex F1 car of the early nineties. And it runs and sounds breathtaking. Bonhams did not give an estimated value, so some bidders had no point of reference. However, this did not prevent the highest bidder from going for £ 2.4 million, with the Williams ultimately passing into his hands for £ 2.7 million (EUR 3.0 million, CHF 3.4 million). However, the Mansell-Williams was still a long way off the dream price for which a Schumacher-Ferrari F2001 was auctioned in New York in 2017, when USD 7.504 million was due for the Monaco-winning car.
